DESCRIPTION

A course to learn elementary concepts of electronics. The target audience is young or inexperienced learners with no math skills and no prior knowledge at all about electronics. The concepts of electronics will be taught using guided discovery, where students are encouraged to think and to try to understand why things work the way they do. The primary goal of the course is to spark an interest in electronics by allowing students to learn and understand electronics fundamentals. Once students understand some of the basics, they will see that electronics is not “black magic” but rather something that they can learn and apply. Some students will become fascinated with electronics and will want to learn all they can, but all students will see that electronics is interesting and useful, and many will wish to continue learning so that they can use electronics in future projects.

BENEFITS

Students will recognize how electronics is applied in our world and will have an understanding of and be able to communicate intelligently about basic electronics concepts including charge, voltage, current, resistance, AC vs. DC power. Students will have learned how to use a multi meter to measure electrical parameters including voltage, current, and resistance.A water analogy will be used to teach basic concepts (for example voltage = pressure), since it is readily understood by all and makes it easy to grasp the concepts. Wherever possible, we will begin with questions, and try to “discover” answers together. Class will be very “hands on” so students will learn while doing.
